Weather and Emergency Closure Policy
When the Pentucket Regional School District is closed due to a snowstorm or other weather related issues, the Merrimac Public Library will close also. This policy is for the safety of our patrons and staff and allows time for the Highway Dept. to plow the parking lot and for snow removal and treatment of the walkways and entrances. However, if weather conditions improve, the library may be open at the Directors discretion.
If PRSD has a delayed opening, the MPL will open at its usual time. Should a snowstorm or other weather related issues occur during school vacations or on Saturdays, closing the library will be determined by the Director after consulting with the DPW.
If a “State of Emergency” is declared by the Governor of the Commonwealth the MPL will close.
If on a particular day the weather conditions become extreme and the safety of library patrons and staff cannot be maintained, the Director will make the determination to close after consulting NOAA weather predictions and the closing plans of neighboring libraries.
When the MPL is closed or will be closing early, notification will be posted on MPL’s Facebook page, and a recorded message will be put on the library’s answering machine, (978) 346-9441.
