Library Displays Policy
Throughout the year, the staff of the Merrimac Public Library use displays to highlight areas of our collection, promote events, and celebration months. This includes displays for varied materials, resources, programs, etc. offered by the library. Displays can be seen throughout the library, as well as on the outside of the building and on the library grounds. Displays are created by the staff and the Art Exhibit Advisor. The staff and/or the Art Exhibit Advisor decide on the content and the location of the display.
The staff uses the same principles as found in the Collection Development Policy when determining what materials to display. The staff selects the content and need for displays based on cultural, civic, and patron interests. These may include national or religious holidays, and national celebration months such as: Black History Month, Pride Month, and Women’s History month.
While patrons are welcome to recommend a display, the staff has the sole purview as to when or where a display will take place.
The fact that the library, the Friends of the Library, and an individual or organization is granted permission to present a display at the Library in no way constitutes endorsement of the policies or beliefs of that organization by the Library or the Town of Merrimac.
Any requests for reconsideration of a display will follow the same policy and procedures as for collection materials, as detailed on the “Policy and Procedure for Reconsideration of Library Materials, eResources, Programs, Displays, or Bulletin Board Postings”, as well as the “Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials, eResources, Programs, Displays, or Bulletin Postings Form.”
When creating displays for the library, the library does not discriminate on the basis of race, age, values, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, cultural or ethnic background, physical, sensory, cognitive or learning disability, economic status, religious beliefs, or views.
